When season three ended in June, Regency era fans were faced with another Bridgerton-shaped hole in their lives, or at least in their TV viewing. So they'll be pleased to hear that season four is very much in the works and this time it will focus on the second eldest sibling, Benedict Bridgerton.

The news was announced on the Bridgerton social media account with a teaser for the next season alongside the caption, 'It has been brought to this author’s attention that perhaps it is time to unmask the newest suitor of the marriage mart… Benedict Bridgerton's story is coming next season.' Of course, the clip was met with widespread excitement from fans online. One of which wrote, 'Oh we've been WAITING for this one', another commented, 'Time to fly Benedict' and a third put, 'thank you, thank you.'

However, if filming has only just begun then there may be quite a wait before the series – for which all three seasons are in Netflix's top ten most popular shows – returns to the platform. Here's everything we know so far about season four of Bridgerton...

When is Bridgerton season four coming out?

Netflix have not yet confirmed when season four of Bridgerton will be out, but if we extrapolate from previous production patterns, it might be a while.

If filming has just started and production takes the usual amount of time then filming is set to wrap up eight months later in May 2025. It's likely there will be another long post-production period, which means season four might not be here until August of 2026.

What will season four be about?

The show has officially announced that season four will focus on Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson. The second eldest of the Bridgerton family, Benedict is a perpetual bachelor in comparison to his siblings, but this season is set to focus on his character by expanding on his journey as an artist, and his experimentations with his identity and sexuality.

Showrunner Jess Brownell told TVLine that the show’s writers describe Benedict Bridgerton ‘as being pansexual’. She added that, for Benedict, ‘gender is not that important when he is finding attraction.’ Pansexual is defined sexual, romantic, or emotional attraction towards people of all genders, or regardless of their sex or gender identity.

Thompson also opened up about his character's sexuality in an interview with Bustle, telling them: ‘It’s always been part of the writing that Benedict feels slightly curious about his desires, rather than certain in what he wants and is looking for.’ He added ‘Male sexuality, particularly, can feel boxy in the way that it’s explored. Let’s be clear, it was an extremely repressive period. By our modern terms, the closest [descriptor] would be something along the lines of pansexuality – being attracted to the way that someone thinks and feels, regardless of gender.’

Who will play Benedict's love interest in season four?

It has already been announced that Yerin Ha will play his love interest, Sophie Baek, described as 'determined', 'captivating' and 'a victim of tragic circumstances'. She follows in the footsteps of Nicola Coughlan, Simone Ashley and Phoebe Dynevor as Bridgerton's next leading lady.

Commenting on season four rehearsals, Luke Thompson has said, 'What’s striking about season four is that it’s the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale – the romance of it – and the actual reality of the world. And both are true. You have to hold both of them — the romance and the reality — in your hand. In its best version, "true love" happens in the middle of that.'

Series newcomer Ha says she has enjoyed the 'playful, freeing, therapeutic' feeling of rehearsing with Thompson. The pair first met during a dinner at showrunner Jess Brownell’s home. The actress added, 'I remember Luke stood there with arms wide open, just ready for an embrace. That was the moment I was like, "Ah, OK, I don’t need to stress about these little things now. I can just genuinely focus on the on-screen connection with him."'

Are there any other new characters in season four?

As with previous seasons, we can expect to see a few other new faces in the Bridgerton ballroom. They are:

Lady Araminta Gun, played by Katie Leung. Twice-married and twice-widowed, Araminta has two daughters debuting on the marriage mart this season and she’s feeling the pressure to get at least one of her girls married off. Fabulous, discerning, and blunt, Araminta does not respond well when anything — or anyone — threatens her standing in society.

Rosamund Li, played by Michelle Mao. Beautiful, vain, and eager to please her mother, Rosamund is Araminta’s eldest daughter and most prized possession. Rosamund sets her sights on Benedict this social season. And, just like her mother, Rosamund is determined to get what she wants.

Posy Li, played by Isabella Wei. Rosamund’s younger, kinder sister is also debuting this year. But Araminta rarely puts the spotlight on her second child. Posy’s chatty, overly friendly demeanor often has her putting her foot in her mouth.
