And Just Like That: An Ode To Anthony Marentino

We're not even mad that he's starting to replace Samantha.

And just like that, we're back. The second season of our beloved show has just hit our screens and Anthony Marentino continues to be one of the saviours of the Sex And The City reboot. With more time on screen, Anthony is now not only Charlotte's BFF, but has become one of Carrie'stoo. Their friendship was unexpected but it just makes sense.

This season Anthony continues to be the friend everyone needs - yes, even after Charlotte invited then uninvited... then invited him again to the Met Ball. He is consistently the funniest character in the reboot, and often the only one to make me laugh out loud. Not all the jokes on the reboot land - Che, we may/may not be looking at you - but Anthony's always do. He is famous for his witty one liners and season two is no different. In the first episode he questioned 'Who is she Lilly Eilish?' or who could forget when he shaded Carrie's podcast by sarcastically saying, 'Hey I'm really enjoying listening to your podcast "Rich People Problems!"'

In the first season, Anthony had a fair bit of character development. Instead of event planning, Anthony is now running a bakery, and it's hysterical to see the fit men he employs dizzying around with baguettes. But the same as the original series - 'I’ll give you $100 if you say something bitchy about someone we know' - the writers have been giving some of the best quips to Anthony, delivered in his slightly irritated, blunt way. When Carrie insists that he doesn't need a facelift, he squawks: 'Tell that to the 30-year old hottie that called me "daddy" last night. I am not ready to be a daddy. I need to get my face back to "hot, slightly older guy".'

Who could forget last season when Carrie was telling Miranda, Charlotte and Anthony how she got so drunk she vomited on the date she went on, Anthony decided to lighten the mood by telling everyone that he... shat himself. When everyone went silent in horror, he just shrieked: 'What! I'm empathising!' (He later tells Carrie, 'you have one more of those' when she whines again that Big has died, in order to get him to follow the teacher she went on a date with.)

On Twitter, many AJLT viewers have even suggested that Anthony should get his own spin-off, following his life post-divorce and running the bakery. As one person tweeted, 'OK, #HBO where is the announcement of the #AndJustLikeThat spin off, #HotFellas? I would watch the hell out of the adventures of Anthony and the hotties who work for him.' We would also watch the hell out of it, too.
