Whether it’s the John Lewis ad or the first door of your advent calendar, there are annual rituals which always make you feel in the mood for Christmas. For some, the festive season begins when their local Starbucks reveals their Christmas menu and accompanying red cups.

Just like the pumpkin spice latte hysteria at the beginning of every autumn, the red cups and limited-edition lattes cause mass excitement (and a flurry of Instagram posts) every November.

It is only natural then that people are up in arms that the coffee chain might not be offering their much-loved red cups this year. The news came to light thanks to a Reddit user who shared a photo of what is likely to be this year’s seasonal cups.

The cups in question are white (the horror!) with a red and black illustrated design featuring presents, hearts, stars and even some Starbucks cups.

While Starbucks have yet to reveal any official info about their upcoming Christmas cups, another Reddit user who claimed to work at a Starbucks confirmed that the white cups photographed will be the ones we’ll be seeing this winter.

This isn’t the first time their Christmas cups have caused such controversy. In 2015 the red cups featured a subtle ombre design which saw the coffee giant recieve major backlash for not being 'Christmassy' enough.

If you’re already excited to Instagram your first gingerbread latte of the season (cup colour depending), you have a little longer to wait. The seasonal offerings are expected to land in store in mid November.
