So many things went through my mind in the first few days of staring at my first baby. Love, fear, wonder, exhaustion and protectiveness like I’ve never known. But, so clearly, I remember also wondering… what are those white dots on his nose?

Because the day you become a parent is the day your job title goes seriously multi-hyphen – and part of that job description is experienced-and-constantly-curious-dermatologist (with absolutely no qualifications aside from your Google search history and some Old Wives’ Tales you can half-remember).

The white dots, common in newborn babies, by the way mums-to-be, are millia – they’re just little dots across their nose and other facial areas that usually clear up in a few days and require no further treatment. (Though of course, if you’re concerned about any rashes on your baby, you should consult a midwife or call 111).

But the point is, every new parent will have these ‘WHAT IS THAT AND HOW WORRIED SHOULD I BE?’ moments, because birthing a child is welcoming worry into your life. And your baby’s skin is the most visible part of your baby, especially when they can’t talk or indicate much apart from the fact they’re hungry and tired.

It’s why all parents are concerned with caring for their baby’s delicate skin, and want to make sure everything they’re buying, using and doing protects it. That’s why, as much as everyone thinks their baby is the most perfect individual in the world, most parents will have had these seven skincare worries.

"OH GOD, WHAT IS THAT RASH?"

There will come a point in every parents’ year (scratch that, probably week) when you uncover your giggling baby’s skin and gasp, ‘Oh God, what is that rash?’ Nine times out of 10 that rash will be perfectly normal and treatable, but 10 times out of 10, you’ll feel panicked. Of course, rashes and marks on your baby’s skin can be a sign of illness that needs checking, so always call your doctor, midwife or 111 if you’re concerned. But by choosing the right nappies and wipes, you can take away some of the likelihoods of issues around dry skin and sensitivity issues. Hypoallergenic and clinically tested, Huggies Wipes are safe for the most sensitive of little ones – and are soft and gentle enough to use on a baby’s delicate skin from day one.

"Can I Definitely Not Pick It?"

Come on, admit it, you’ve stared at your baby’s cradle cap and thought, ‘Can I definitely not pick it? Definitely?’ And the answer is… no, no you cannot. Sorry...

"Am I Going To Bankrupt Myself Buying Baby Wipes?"

As a parent caring for a newborn, you’ve probably not even looked at your own skin or worried about it in months (except to check out those goooorrrgeous eyebags). But when it comes to your baby’s skin, everything – including what baby wipe you’re using – becomes important. Except, when you’re changing your ninth nappy of the morning, piling wipe after wipe as you clean from neck to toe (how does a nappy even explode in such a way?), or cleaning whatever vegetable you’ve lovingly blended from their face, hands and the ceiling, you start to wonder if this (not your new midnight online shopping while feeding habit) will be the thing that bankrupts you. Huggies understand that when it comes to your baby, you don’t want to compromise. To make sure every baby can benefit from their skin-loving wipes, they’ve ensured that as well as being good for your baby’s skin, they’re affordable.

"Am I Responsible For A Whole Landfill Yet?"

Baby wipes are a parent’s constant companion – but so is an eco-conscience for many of us. So when you’ve managed to stop being torn between what’s best for baby and balancing a budget, there’s the, yknow, planet to worry about too. Huggies’ Tiniest Footprint mission aims to make their baby wipes as gentle on the planet as they are on baby’s skin – and they contain up to 60% less plastic than other leading brands. Huggies’ Tiniest Footprint mission aims to make their baby wipes as gentle on the planet as they are on baby’s skin. They’ve just launched new Huggies Pure Biodegradable which are plastic-free and made with 100% naturally-derived fibres. In tests, they biodegraded in simulated landfill conditions after 15 days…which is one thing off your mind.

"Why Has Modern Medicine Not Been Solely Dedicated To Finding A Cure For Nappy Rash?"

Nappy rash is no joke, as any parent with a crying and not-sleeping baby can testify. And nappy-free time is all well and good… until crawling starts. It’s brutal on babies and parents. So, you’re going to do everything you can to try and prevent it. The whole Huggies range is designed to offer the softest, kindest care possible to keep your baby’s sensitive skin clean . Huggies Pure Extra Care are made with 99% pure water with a precious newborn in mind - the range’s most caring wipe for delicate skin.

"Did I… Did I Do That?"

One day, you will look down at the pure, smooth gorgeousness of your baby’s skin and see… a scratch. Where did it come from? And did you do it? Or if not, who did? And how can you hunt them down? Never mind the fact that you’re probably covered in scratches, bruises and all kinds, of course… The good thing is, that baby skin really is near-miraculous and will heal very quickly.

"Am I Cleaning Them Too Much? Am I Cleaning Them Enough?"

Once you’ve attempted to question all the voices in your head, of course, the rest of the world loves to get involved with their opinion. A Great Aunt who swears she didn’t bathe their baby more than once a month, or an in-law who loves to condescendingly lean over and wipe something off your baby’s face with an ‘Ooops, mummy missed a bit!’ Sadly, Huggies can’t help with the put-downs or your comebacks. But the skin-loving natural fibres in their wipes mean that you don’t have to worry about using them too much, while the price and the eco-friendly makeup of their new biodegradable line means you can spare a few wipes and let the in-law just get on with it. A few deep breaths might help too…
