Feeling the pinch already at the thought of your uni friend's 4-day hen extravaganza coming up over the May bank holiday? Understandable, really, seeing as a recent survey has uncovered the amount you are likely to spend on it will equate that of a small holiday...
Personalised clothing brand Banana Moon polled over 1,000 people on their spending habits in relation to hens and stags, and the results show that the average amount of cash a person delegates to each, comes in at the [teeny, tiny, tidy] sum of: £507.
Yes, that's right: FIVE HUNDRED and SEVEN POUNDS.
What are we spending that on?!
A breakdown of costs reveal that travel is the most expensive facet – coming in at £109 – whilst accomodation and alcohol come in a close second and third – at £90 and £75, respectively.
'Activities' – you know, pottery-painting, spa days, skipping through meadows with lambs – costs, on average, £63, whilst food for the weekend comes in at roughly £57 (oh yes, it's expensive, that ready meal lasagne...)
Of the remaining £113, £50 of it goes on clothes, and £63 on pre-wedding gifts (the 'friends' photo album, the bride-to-be sash, the saucy underwear...).
Little surprise, therefore, that 80% of people surveyed said they were worried about the amount they were spend on such weekends (although, interestingly, 55% said that attending them was 'an essential piece of the overall wedding experience').
Final point: are they worth it?
It appears not. 32% of those polled said the hen/stag was more fun than the wedding, which means 68% thought it didn't live up to the big day itself.
Oh well, who cares? It's not all about us, is it? As long as the bride-to-be enjoys the weekend, who cares how much it costs...
Right...?
