Did You Have A ‘Bridezilla Moment’?

As wedding season begins in earnest, spare a thought for the brides. Their big day is looming – and they’ve probably never felt less sane…

In the spirit of the most bonkers of seasons, Grazia asked former brides to confess their most spectacular moments of pre-wedding madness.

Sally Bett, 34, is a director at PR Agency Borne Media. She’s married to Blair Richardson, 32, a Digital Marketing Director.

She says,'I’m a control freak, but when Blair mentioned a few weeks before our wedding that he knew how to do calligraphy, I was happy to let him take over writing the name cards for the tables.

He began, with me watching over his shoulder. Very quickly, it became clear he was just using his normal handwriting, but with a special pen. I went – and this is the only word for it – ballistic, crying and shouting at him: ‘What the hell? You said you could do effing calligraphy! Why did you lie?’

'Unbeknown to me, I’d become a monster over the previous few months, and this was the final straw. When I woke up the next morning, Blair had packed his bags and told me he’d had enough - he was leaving. When I arrived home that evening, he was gone, and I was devastated. He told me he didn’t recognise the woman he was marrying anymore, and to be honest, neither did I.

'With a visit to the wedding venue with my parents booked three days later, I had no idea what to do: should I tell them, or hope he’d forgiven me by then? I didn’t know how to explain that we’d potentially called off the wedding over his shoddy calligraphy.

In the end, I called Blair and apologised profusely. It was a wake-up call and I realised I needed to relax a bit and not take him for granted.

'I wrote the name cards myself and of course, at the wedding, nobody even noticed them.'
