Newly confirmed couple, Halsey and Evan Peters, have decided to ramp up the status of their relationship, but is it scarily too soon? No, we're not talking about swapping keys here, it's bigger than that. They've introduced onto the world their halloween couples style, dressing up as Sonny and Cher for the American Horror Story 100th episode celebration party.
The couple confirmed they were dating last week, when Halsey posted the below picture on her Instagram. I know what you're thinking, we've barely seen any photos of them together in 'normal' attire, and now, they're diving into the dressing up box...
In the couples defence, everyone knows that fancy dress can be a little daunting. That's why doing it as a pair definitely makes everything that little bit less intimidating - you're in it together, whether your costumes are a wild success, or epic failure. But, what's the etiquette on asking your other half when you've just entered into a relationship? You don't want to spook them too soon.. Is Batman and Robin a good idea for when you're not totally sold on the relationship? What's the best option when you've spent the last 10 years together?
Luckily for you, we've created a simple guide for you and your partner. Whatever stage of the relationship you might be in (consider the other parties thoughts on this too), we've suggested potential Halloween options for you both to win best-dressed and ramp up your couples style in doing so.
1. Love at first sight
If it's been a whirl-wind romance from the get-go, there's not going to be much of an issue when you suggest duo costumes this year. These on-screen partners-in-crime are easily recognisable thanks to the Joker’s new green hair and tattoos and Harley’s iconic dip-dyed pigtails, hot pants and baseball bat. Plus - 2019 might just be your last year to pull a Harley Quinn, as next year's new movie Birds Of Prey reignites Margot Robbie's iconic character with an all-new look.
2. Persuasion tactics
Struggling to convince the other half to go all out this Halloween? Look no further than Men in Black - all you need it a suit, tie and the iconic black shades. Easy, low-key and also, chic.
3. Sister over mister
If your significant other thinks it's too soon, or more generally, isn't game for going as Ron and Hermione - call up your bestie. Name a more iconic modern duo than the Jenner sisters. We recommend the Met Gala 2019 for a more recognizable look - head down to your local craft shop for feathers, sequins and, er, purple wigs.
4. Married life
When you've been dressing as a pair for longer than you have been flying solo, there's only one couple left to impersonate - the OGs Halloween, Gomez and Morticia Addams. An oldie but a goodie, there’s no better spooky couple to channel on All Hallows’ Eve than the matriarch and patriarch of the Addams family. Undeniably glamorous thanks to their 1930s origins and aristocratic background, gothic lovers Gomez and Morticia are the chicest ghouls ever. After all, can you think of any other Halloween fancy dress that involves black tie tuxedos and elegant, floor-length gowns? We didn’t think so.
6. Life of the party
If you're the couple that love to host and put on a show, think more celebrity than scary this halloween. Whether you take inspiration from Kim Kardashian and Jonathan Cheban (aka Foodgod) or from the iconic queen herself, you can't go wrong with a Sonny and Cher power couple costume. Be sure to complement your look with purple eyeshadow, large hooped earrings and lashings of mascara. For Sonny, a stick on mustache and bow tie will do!
7. Uniform dating
A uniform is always easier sort out costume-wise, especially when you don't have time to buy the pieces yourself, just tell him 'Sailors', when you really mean Steve and Robin from Stranger Things. Become Scoops Ahoy's newest employees with a Breton tee, blue shorts and red accessories - attitude optional (but we FULLY support).
Convinced your both in it for the long-haul? Another popular choice comes courtesy of everyone’s favourite TV show, Game of Thrones. Although they last shared the screen in series one, Khal Drogo and Khaleesi have become one of the most popular on television. What’s more, there’ll be no doubt about who you’re dressed-up as – these costumes are as unique as they get…
9. Comedy duo
If you're still at the early stages and (sadly) not totally sold on a serious relationship, then old school Batman and Robin might be for you. OK, maybe the easiest couples costume choice, but it’s a classic, not to mention good for having a laugh. The perfect choice for any comic book fans wanted to live out their fantasies, it's just a case of finding a catsuit/bodysuit you're happy with plus accessories..
10. Childhood sweethearts
If you've been together since you decided he was better looking than Paul from S Club, then a Harry Potter inspired costume can never go wrong in our eyes. We vote Ron and Hermione as the most adorable couple - but extra points for a scary duo, Hagrid and Fluffy anyone?
11. Too glam to give a damn
Not really into labels, or simply can't be bothered to have that conversation? Why not go all out regardless - what have you got to lose? Last but certainly not least - our personal fave: Harry Styles and Alessandro Michelle at the Met Gala 2019. Sheer, ruffled and lace perfection. Plus, it's Harry Styles, is there any further explanation needed?
