Taylor Swift has made her solo directorial debut with the new music video for The Man, in which she stars as a man who looks unnervingly like a young Tom Cruise. In the video, 'The Man Taylor' shows everyone who's boss at work, manspreads on the subway and parties with scantily-clad models.

The song, which fittingly arrives in the run-up to International Women's Day, asks how Taylor's experience of fame would be different if she was a man. 'They’d say I hustled, put in the work,' she sings. 'They wouldn’t shake their heads and question how much of this I deserve.'

She also hints at her romantic history with the line: 'They would toast to me, oh / let the players play / I'd be just like Leo / in Saint Tropez,' referencing how Leonardo DiCaprio's romantic escapades are often reported differently to her own.

Brilliantly, her character is voiced by alpha male Dwayne Johnson in a closing credits sequence that sees 'director Taylor' telling 'The Man Taylor' to do it again, this time 'sexier, more likeable.'

The Man is the latest single to be released from Taylor’s critically acclaimed, record breaking seventh studio album, Lover.
