Girls Aloud VS Sugababes

The internet is a strange place… Whilst it’s usually the best place for the most up-to-date opinions, music and fashion, sometimes older things will resurface and go viral for no real reason other than nostalgia.

Case en point: the Girls Aloud and Sugababes Walk This Way collab.

Originally airing in 2007 for Comic Relief, the Aerosmith cover sees the two girl bands battle it out to raise money for charity. The track entered the UK Singles Chart at number 1 on March 18 but had dropped to number two the following week. By week three it was already out of the top ten.

Look, it may not have been the most successful track from either girl group, but it’s the ideal tonic for the winter blues and a welcome discovery when you get sucked into a cycle of mindless scrolling.

Maybe it’s the fact that the Sugababes are back together and releasing music. Yep, Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy won back the rights to the group name Sugababes in 2019 and have been releasing music ever since. N.B. Their most recent album The Lost Tapes debuted at number 2 on the UK Album Downloads Chart at the end of December last year and it's well worth a listen...

Or maybe it’s the fact that Cheryl is making a career comeback and starring in the West End in 2:22 A Ghost Story to rave reviews.

It could even be that 2022 marked Girls Aloud’s 20th anniversary and people are taking the time to remember them in all their glory.

Or, perhaps it's just that they don’t make girl bands quite like this anymore.

Whatever it is, we’re here for it - and the internet is too, the clip going viral with tons of meme reactions celebrating it's glory. So just sit back, embrace the nostalgia and marvel at the hooped earrings, shiny belts and iconic choreo.
