‘It’s also an unethical charge being made… I guess it comes with the territory of being a woman just doing her job,’ Camille Vasquez told People.

Lawyer Camille Vasquez has been forced to shut down rumours of a romantic relationship with client Johnny Depp once again. The 37-year-old lawyer became a sort-of heroine figure for Depp’s intense supporters during the harrowing trial, with romantic edits of the pair going viral on social media often. The trial saw both Depp and Amber Heardwin claims of defamation against the other - both had accused the other of abuse, and both denied it too.

In a new interview with People, Vasquez opened up about the relationship rumours that spread during the trial, dubbing them ‘sexist’.

‘I guess it comes with the territory of being a woman just doing her job,’ she said. ‘It's disappointing that certain outlets kind of ran with it or said that my interactions with Johnny — who is a friend and I've known and represented for four-and-a-half years now — that my interactions in any way were inappropriate or unprofessional. That's disappointing to hear.’

Much of the rumours were prompted by moments in court where Depp and Vasquez touched or hugged. But for Vasquez, that’s just her nature. ‘I care very deeply about my clients, and we have obviously become close,’ she explained. ‘But when I say we, I mean the entire team, and of course that includes Johnny… and I'm Cuban and Colombian. I'm tactile. What do you want me to say? I hug everyone. And I'm not ashamed about that.’

Who is Camille Vasquez's boyfriend, Edward Owen?

The lawyer is currently in a relationship with British-born Edward Owen, head of real estate for Europe, the Middle East and Asia at WeWork. Tabloids report that the relationship is new but serious, with Vasquez telling people she is ‘very happy’ with her current love. Naturally, everyone is now searching the couple with 'Camille Vasquez husband' being a major search term on Google (they're not married as far as the public are aware) as well as 'Edward Owen WeWork'.

Beyond the fact she’s not available, Vasquez also reminded fans shipping her with Johnny that it would be completely inappropriate to date her client.

‘It's also an unethical charge being made. It's sexist,’ she said. ‘It's unfortunate and it's disappointing, but at the same time it kind of comes with the territory. I can't say I was all that surprised.’

Ultimately, the rumours serve to decrease Vasquez’s legitimacy as a lawyer. It hasn’t appeared to affect her career just yet though; Vasquez was recently elevated to partner at her firm Brown Rudnick because of the key role she played in the trial.
