This morning, #WhereIsBoris has begun trending on Twitter as anger around the A-Level exam results crisis increases. Despite more than a week of backlash against the governments controversial grading system, the Prime Minister is yet to publicly respond to the public instead choosing to go on holiday.

Johnson and his fiancée Carrie Symonds are expected to be camping in Scotland this week despite demands for him to respond to the ongoing outrage. Backlash increased over the weekend when exam regulator Ofqual scrapped a rule that would allow pupils to appeal their grades using mock exam results. They did this just hours after the rules had been published and endorsed by ministers.

Education secretary Gavin Williamson has since told Tory MPs that Ofqual’s decision was due to technical problems, however it’s been reported that relations between the Department for Education and Ofqual are strained with The Daily Telegraph reporting that Ofqual want to abandon the algorithm-generation grades system altogether.

‘We are in a position where it is politically unacceptable to continue with the algorithm – this is the view of some people on the Ofqual board,’ a senior figure at Ofqual told the newspaper.

Insider sources aren’t quelling the public mood though, especially after Oxford University announced it would not offer further places to the state school students who have been disproportionately affected by the flawed grades system - noting a cap on offer numbers imposed by the government.

In fact, hundreds of A-level students protested the results in Parliament Square this weekend outside the Department for Education.

With GCSE results due to be published on Thursday that will qualify over 700,000 student for further study or training, the public are demanding a response from Boris Johnson as to how he will rectify the results fiasco. According to various conservative MPs, large numbers of constituents have been in touch with frustrated pleas for a response with more expected after GCSE results are announced.

As #WhereIsBoris trends then, Labour’s deputy leader Angela Raynor has called on the PM to cancel his holiday and put together a proper plan to overhaul results. ‘The prime minister must now take personal responsibility for this crisis by addressing the country in the next 24 hours to explain precisely how he will end this historic injustice,’ she said on Twitter.
