Virginia Giuffre - formerly Roberts - will appear on BBC’s Panorama tonight in an episode titled The Prince and the Epstein Scandal. She will give her account of what happened with Prince Andrew, telling the programme that Prince Andrew’s excuses are ‘ridiculous’ and any allegation that the photo of them is doctored is ‘BS’.
The one-hour special, which airs at 9pm tonight, will feature Giuffre’s first UK interview. According to a press release from the BBC, Giuffre will reiterate that she was trafficked to have sex with friends of Epstein, including Prince Andrew, when she was 17. She will ‘implore’ the British public to ‘stand beside her’ and ‘not accept what has happened to her as being OK’.
Telling the programme that she was introduced to Prince Andrew in London in 2001, she will say they went to Tramp night club together with Epstein and his then-girlfriend and alleged co-conspirator, Ghislaine Maxwell.
‘We went into the VIP section,’ she tells the programme. ‘There was no waiting in the lines obviously – you were with a Prince. Andrew asked me what I wanted to drink you know and I said, “oh you know something from the bar”. He had something clear. I know mine was vodka.'
‘He asked me to dance,’ she continues. ‘He is the most hideous dancer I’ve ever seen in my life. I mean it was horrible and this guy was sweating all over me, like his sweat was like it was raining basically everywhere I was just like grossed out from it but I knew I had to keep him happy because that’s what Jeffrey and Ghislaine would have expected from me.’
‘In the car Ghislaine tells me that I have to do for Andrew what I do for Jeffrey and that just made me sick,’ she says.
Prince Andrew was, of course, previously interviewed by Emily Maitlis for BBC's Newsnight and said he didn’t recall meeting Giuffre and strenuously denied ever having sex with her. He also said he had a medical condition that stopped him sweating, however multiple photos from the same time have surfaced since that show him sweating.
He implied that the photo of them together, which shows his hand around Giuffre’s waist, was doctored – claims Giuffre has called ‘ridiculous’.
‘The people on the inside are going to keep coming up with these ridiculous excuses,’ she says. ‘Like his arm was elongated or the photo was doctored, or he came to New York to break up with Jeffrey Epstein. I mean come on I'm calling BS on this, because that’s what it is. He knows what happened. I know what happened, and there's only one of us telling the truth, and I know that’s me.’
There have been a number of discrepancies around Prince Andrew’s comments on the picture in question, notably when he said he had never been upstairs in Ghislaine Maxwell’s house despite the picture showing them to be standing at the top of the stairs.
A statement from Buckingham Palace says the Duke ‘unequivocally regrets his ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein’ and ‘deeply sympathises with those affected who want some form of closure.’
However, the statement says, ‘it is emphatically denied that The Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts. Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation.’
Giuffre, on the other hand, begs for the British public's support. ‘I implore the people in the UK to stand up beside me, to help me fight this fight, to not accept this as being ok,’ she says. ‘This is not some sordid sex story. This is a story of being trafficked, This is a story of abuse and this is a story of your guys’ royalty.'
