A Twitter rom-com went viral this week after one user shared the story of her friend's Bumble match. Apparently, the pair joked about their first date being a holiday – but the joke quickly became very real.
SophDoesNails, a UK YouTuber, posted the story on her Twitter on Wednesday. ‘So one of my friends got talking to a girl on bumble, made a joke about driving past Gatwick airport & going on a spontaneous holiday, the joke became real.. and he has now booked a £99 Wowcher holiday for the two of them, but they have never met,’ she posted.
Sharing screenshots of her friend's conversation with said date, the conversation appears to show the pair going sarcastically back and forth about how spontaneous they both are – before suddenly the guy in the interaction says ‘I’d actually be up for it’ before the girl replies ‘Yeah me too.’
Rather than booking an actual holiday, the pair decided to sign up to Wowcher’s mystery holiday deal, where you pay £99 to be entered into a prize draw – the prize being a mystery holiday with destinations ranging from New York to Bali. While most of the prizes are two nights in a mystery location, some can last up to seven days.
Naturally, it’s a great deal – but not necessarily everyone’s ideal first date. After all, safety concerns aside, you could end up spending a week in awkward silence on the other side of the world. Although, we’re sure the Bali beaches would make up for it.
With the couple booking onto the deal, obviously Twitter users were keen to find out what happened next. But sadly, we’re being forced to wait. Because, the prize draw isn’t until 23 October, meaning we have nearly a week of anticipation to find out where these lovebirds are going and when.
As Soph promises to keep users updated and we can only wait patiently to find out if going on holiday as a first date is the best or worst idea in the world. Place your bets, ladies, and check back here next week for updates on this hilariously millennial rom-com tale.
