‘Babes if we dated people would think we were brother and sister,’ I replied to a Hinge match just a few months ago. ‘Let em stare,’ he replied with a nonchalance that tells me he has dated far too many women that look exactly like him. And so began a lockdown love affair that ultimately, will only ever remain virtual because quite frankly… no, Pete.

Just a few short lockdown restrictions later, my aversion to dating someone with my exact facial features was affirmed in the glorious Instagram account that is ‘Siblings or Dating’ – an account dedicated to posting pictures of couples that look alike where followers guess whether they are in fact, siblings or romantically involved.

I came across the account after it was shared by one of its many celebrity fans and quickly became engrossed in the guessing game on their Instagram Stories where you can vote for your choice, only for it to be revealed a few hours later.

Why is it so engrossing? Because it is So. Damn. Hard.

Seriously, it’s not just deliberating how closely their facial features align, it’s the body language of each picture, the slight head tilt that may indicate a closer bond completely scuppered by an obvious discomfort in touching arms. Honestly, there are more bombshells on this account than on Love Island.

Just take a look at some of the best examples themselves, but be warned, you may lose an afternoon to scrolling through the account in shock and awe at just how many couples that SHOULD be siblings are dating, and vice versa.

See, we're not just suffering from intense lockdown boredom, right? This is absolutely the most addicting Instagram account ever?

Of course, it gets even more confusing when couples who look like they should be dating are in fact siblings. Seriously, what would you rather be mistaken for, your boyfriend's sister or your brother's girlfriend?

Either way, you can bet it's helped me rest easy that I let my potential future husband run far, far away knowing I won't ever have to answer that question. Although, perhaps dating someone who looks exactly like you is the ultimate example of self-love...one for a lockdown ponder, hey?
