Is This The Year The Strictly Curse Will Finally Be Broken?

Ranvir Singh and Giovanni Pernice may seem 'close', but unlike years gone by, they're not breaking any vows...

On last night’s Strictly Come Dancing, Ranvir Singh and Giovanni Pernice got hearts racing with their Argentine Tango performance. So much so, people are now Googling ‘Is Ranvir Singh married?’ to try and piece together whether Ranvir and Giovanni could be dating. While fans scramble the internet for information, one thing is for sure: it’s no Strictly curse.

Why? Because both Ranvir and Giovanni are in fact, single. I know, anyone who watched their Tango performance video now has wide eyes and raised eyebrows at that very fact. While Ranvir Singh was married to Ranjeet Singh from 2012, the pair divorced with both staying quiet on when and why they split until earlier this year.

While reports state that Ranvir and Ranjeet split years ago, rumours of their divorce only began earlier this year. Ranvir confirmed she was single weeks before her Strictly debut, telling Woman and Home ‘It’s hard work being a working single parent. I struggle with an enormous amount of guilt with my son and not being there when he goes to school. We’re very attached to one another because it’s just me and him.’

Ranvir and Ranjeet Singh have one son together, Tushaan, who she says is the reason she won’t be opening up about her marriage ending. ‘I keep my private life private, mainly to protect Tushaan,’ she said. ‘It’s important that he learns things about my decisions from me and not from mums talking at the school gates. I think it comes down to how you feel about your own story.’

Giovanni Pernice also split from his partner, former Strictly star Ashley Roberts, in January this year after one year together. He was reported to be dating Love Island’s Joanna Chimonides six months later. But with many looking into his dating life as Strictly came back on to our screen, it appears he is still currently single.

Not for much longer, if Strictly fans have anything to do with it. Everyone and their dog seemed to be convinced he and Ranvir are romantically involved after last night’s Tango performance, with thousands sharing the video on Twitter.

Whether they’ve grown closer or not, at least we can rest assured that the Strictly curse is likely broken this year. Because the only other Strictly romance rumours are coming from HRVY and partner Maise Smith who admitted they had an ‘instant connection’ but are fearful of ruining their friendship.

Given that the couples each in support bubbles together (‘One half of the bubble is a single adult household living alone, while the other half may remain with their household,’ according to the BBC.) one might expect this is the ultimate year of the Strictly curse. With all of us touch-starved, to then be thrust into a support bubble without any outside contact, spending hours each day bodies pushed together in training and performing sexy dances on the weekend? It’s enough to make any outside partner nervous.

But, against all odds, the only two rumoured romances on Strictly are the most single contestants of all. 2020 is truly a year the impossible becomes possible, good or bad.
