Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox’s separation has turned messy fast. Less than three months after announcing their split on a podcast, where Green said they have been apart since late last year, Green is shading Fox on Instagram for dating rapper Machine Gun Kelly (real name Colson Baker).

It started when Fox went Instagram official with Kelly, posting a picture of the pair in bath towels with the caption ‘Achingly Beautiful Boy… My heart is yours’. The heartfelt celebration of her new love turned sour quickly, when Green chose to post pictures of their children with the exact same caption.

Cue the flood of comments in support of him. ‘I’ve gotta say I’m disappointed in her behaviour,’ one fan commented to over 700 likes. ‘Your post made me laugh and feel the anger you must be feeling 🙌🏻 hang in there, your kids are watching and they will be proud of you.. TRUST ME’

‘Savage! Love it!,’ others added. ‘This is the level of petty I needed today!’. The messages have been so severe it seems that Fox has disabled comments on her original post. Even tabloids have supported his response, with BuzzFeed calling it ‘hilariously petty’ and Just Jared naming it ‘the most epic clapback’.

Except this isn’t a hilarious clapback, this is yet another example of a woman’s kids being used against her in a battle of toxic masculinity. By posting pictures of their kids with the same caption, Green is implying Fox has replaced her own children with her new boyfriend. Despite being separated for eight months, Green still sees her as an object only he and his kids can own. Not only does this paint her as if she’s a bad mother, it sends the message to all his fans – of which there are many – that once you’re a mum, sorry, you can’t love anyone but your kids.

All the while, Green has been dating multiple women, spotted on dates with model Tina Louise last month and reality star Courtney Stodden soon after. In fact, he was dating so prolifically he felt the need to defend his behaviour on the podcast Hollywood Raw with Dax Holt and Adam Glyn saying ‘It doesn’t mean I’m a shitty person.’

Even more than that, Green has been accused of doing the exact thing he’s implying Fox has done by his ex-fiancé Vanessa Marcil – with whom he shares one son, Kassius Marcil-Green. Last year, she told reporters that Green had ‘cut’ Kass out of his life after a bitter custody battle claiming he hadn’t seen his son in five years. Kass was included in the Instagram post shading Fox.

Some have accused him of setting the stage for a custody battle by painting himself as a hero dad

So, not only is it completely irresponsible to further spread the idea that women aren’t allowed to love anyone else but their kids – and presumably given how angry he clearly is, the father of those kids – it’s also a huge double standard. Some have even accused him of setting the stage for a custody battle by painting himself as a hero dad despite his history.

Ultimately, it speaks to his own immaturity more than anything else – proven by the fact Fox is yet to reply to his petty remarks. With him replying to any comments condemning his behaviour with laughing emojis, we can’t see it slowing down anytime soon either. For Fox’s sake and more importantly, for the kid’s sake, we hope otherwise.
