Katy Perry’s attendance at King Charles III coronation was already causing controversy this week, after many were left wondering why she was even invited – which we explain here – and how she knew King Charles. But even stranger was the moment we saw her arrive at Westminster Abbey when the singer was left searching awkwardly for her seat as guests filled the pews.
In a video posted by Pop Base, Katy can be seen wandering around the church, stopping to ask guests about her seat. ‘Can I sit there?’ she appears to say to a row of guests (although it could also be 'Is my seat there?'), before awkwardly moving on to search for her official seat.
Katy Perry was invited to the coronation as she is headlining the Coronation Concert this weekend. She told reporters she was 'excited' to perform as well as 'shine a light further' on The British Asian Trust - a charity founded by the King when he was the Prince of Wales, which works to tackle widespread poverty and hardship in South Asia. Katy is an ambassador for the charity and has highlighted its work to raise funds to find solutions to child trafficking. Her role in the coronation is perhaps less surprising then when you consider her work in philanthropy.
The coronation seating plan has caused controversy beyond just Katy’s seat though. In fact, the drama started weeks ago when it was reported that Prince Harry had no idea where he was sitting. Page Six reported that a source told them ‘Harry’s heard nothing from Buckingham Palace for the seating. For the most part, I think all parties will be focused on making the day as special as possible for the King.’
ICYMI, Harry was sat on the third row next to his cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and their partners. At least he had a properly reserved seat then, unlike Katy is seems!
