When it comes to Instagram filters, you may’ve noticed there’s a select few celebrities and normies alike favour. Some are more insidious, subtle face-altering filters that are currently being rallied against, whereas others are more obvious, fun filters that show you what you might look like as a Disney character, with bright neon hair or a face full of tattoos. The most recent favourite that falls into the second category? The Bratz Doll filter.
That’s right, filter connoisseur Paige Piskin has worked her graphic magic once again to create the ‘Lil Cartoon Bratz’ filter – and celebrities are loving it. Used by the likes of Lily Allen, Christine Quinn and Zara Larsson, the Bratz Doll filter helps you envisage a childhood dream of looking exactly like the beloved toy.
With an eye-colour changing feature, the Bratz Doll filter gives you that famous diamond lip shape, huge eyes and almost fits your face into that heart-shape Bratz were known for. I say almost, because if you have an oblong shaped face like some of us (cough, me – I’m not bitter though) the filter can only do so much.
Why are they so obsessed? We can only assume that just like all of us at the beginning of lockdown, regressing into the memories of your childhood faves is bringing a lot of comfort. Plus, it's just kind of wild seeing what you'd actually look like if you're face was modelled after the exaggerated features of your most-beloved doll growing up.
So, how do you get the Bratz Doll filter for yourself?
Well, other than seeing it being used by your favourite celebrities and clicking on the filter tag (implemented by Instagram to promote social responsibility for face-altering filters), you can go to creator Paige Piskin’s profile and find it under her filters tab. In fact, there’s two to choose from, ‘Lil Cartoon Bratz’ or ‘Lil Bratz Doll’. You can then click try it and once you have your very own Bratz face, if you really love it, click the arrow next to the filter name and you can choose to save the effect in your regular filters or send it to friends.
Piskin’s cartoon filters are so popular, she has over one million followers and her work is regularly featured by the likes of Ariana Grande, Noah Cyrus and Kylie Jenner. In fact, her ‘Cartoon Princess’ filter swept Hollywood last month, used by everyone from Dua Lipa to Hailey Bieber to Lili Reinhart.
