Next time you're upset and want to say, 'HOW IS IT LEGAL TO DO XYZ, WHEN YOU STILL CAN'T XYZ?!' you've got a new one to add to the list by the astonishingly un-self-conscious Conservative government... Grouse Shooting.
So let's try and fill that formula. We'll go with 'HOW IS IT LEGAL TO GO GROUSE SHOOTING WITH 30 PEOPLE, WHEN YOU STILL MIGHT HAVE TO GO THROUGH LABOUR, OR MISCARRY OR GO THROUGH STILL BIRTH ALONE.'
That's quite something, isn't it?
The HuffPost has today discovered that 'Pro-hunting and shooting groups can continue to hold gatherings of between six and 30 people because they are covered by a loophole that permits licensed “outdoor activity”.'
The rule of six states that, as of August 14, it is illegal to meet in groups of more than six. It's caused outrage and issues for larger families or those living in shared houses, with many concerned about how the rule could affect Christmas if not overturned by then.
There are some exemptions from The Rule of Six, like sports clubs, wedding receptions and political protests.
But an exemption also applies to 'a gathering [that] takes place outdoors (whether or not in a public outdoor space' for the purpose of 'physical activity which is carried on outdoors' where a licence, permit of certificate is held by the organiser.
HuffPost have also revealed that Michael Gove was going to hold a one-agenda meeting titled 'Exemption: hunting and shooting', but it was cancelled at the last moment - presumably in case someone told them, 'Probably not the way to make everyone fell like we're all in this together, chaps'.
It's not yet clear if the exemption includes fox hunting, but obviously the internet is RAGING and wondering if 'carrying a gun and wearing silly clothes' is the new 'sticking a school blazer on' if you want to get away with meeting up in groups.
While everyone reading the news will have their own 'How is this possible when I still can't...' feelings, it's worth remembering the But Not Maternity campaign.
The campaign is calling on the government to lift rules on women having to be alone in hospital until a certain stage of labour - and then after too. The rules have meant women have had to give birth alone, be told of miscarriage alone, and spent hours in painful inductions alone.
I wonder if Michael Gove, or ONE OF THOSE CHAPS, could stretch to a one agenda meeting on that any time soon?
