A gender reveal party in Texas resulted in a plane crash last month, according to a new incident report filed with National Transportation Safety Board in America. While there no serious harm was caused as a result, the passenger in the plane did suffer minor injuries.
According to NBC DFW News{
However, when the pilot approached the reveal spot, he slowed the aircraft to dump the water and the plane stalled, losing altitude and subsequently crashing. There was substantial damage to the plane, however the pilot, Raj Horan was unharmed and his passenger, Jennifer Harrell, only suffered minor injuries.
The report shows that the single-seat crop duster plane had no mechanical failures of malfunctions before the incident, however following there was substantial damage to the fuselage, right wing and empennage.
The accident is the latest in a long line of dangerous gender reveal stunts, with a woman killed in Iowa last month after she was hit by debris from an explosion during the announcement. Then there’s that infamous 47-000 acre wildfire in Arizona, which was started when a man shot a target to reveal his baby’s gender, only for it to erupt into flames and cause $8 million dollars of damage.
Honestly, at this point gender reveal parties are more like an irresponsible episode of Jackass than an arbitrary celebration of your baby's genitals. In fact, even the woman who started the entire trend - Jenna Karvunidis – has come to regret it following the extremities the occasion has encouraged.
Really though, how much damage has to be caused – to the people involved and to society at large – before we realise gender reveal parties need to be left in this decade.
