Eurostar is answering all of our holiday prayers this month, launching their January sale at 7am this morning. With trips from London to Paris as cheap £29 for bookings between January and September, seats are expected to sell out quickly with other destinations like Amsterdam, Lyon and Marseille also on offer.
With the nights still as cold and dark as ever, and no mulled wine or mince pies to get us through, it’s the perfect time to book a mini-break. Particularly, a train mini-break. Why? Well, not only is it a lot more ethical than taking a flight, you don't have a weight restriction on baggage (it’s OUR holiday and we’ll take 45 pairs of shoes on a 48-hour trip if we want to). And while we’re sure you’ve set your 2020 savings budgets and planned to be good for the near future, or at least the next few days, rest assured these holidays aren’t about to break the bank.
So what’s in the Eurostar sale exactly and what dates are the promotions applicable to? Well, the cheapest tickets are London to Paris at £29, closely followed by £35 tickets to Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Then you’ll see £45 tickets to Lyon and £49 tickets to Avignon and Marseille.
And while you can book the fares from the 7th of January to the 20th when the sale ends, your tickets will only be valid for the following dates – which differ according to location.
For Paris, Brussels, Lille and Calais, you will have to travel between 21 January and 1 April. For Rotterdam and Amsterdam, tickets are valid between 21 January and 30 March and for Lyon, Avignon and Marseille you can visit between 22 May and 7 September.
If you wish to travel in style, even the Standard Premier tickets are on sale at £70 – which get you more space on board, a light meal and refreshments during the journey as well complimentary magazines.
While many of the sale prices are only on one-way tickets, with compulsory returns needed for Paris, Brussels, Calais and Lille, fares are valid for travel any day of the week – subject to availability. So if you have a big girls' weekend planned or just fancy a solo trip to Europe this winter, get your cards at the ready, these seats will go fast…
