There are plenty of times in a woman’s life where you leave a bad date and think, ‘eugh, what a waste’. Those two hours you could’ve spent binge-watching Netflix, the three-pumps of foundation now down the drain. But the most annoying thing to waste on a pointless date has to be, above all, money.
That £30 bottle of wine you guzzled just to make the time go faster now has you wishing you never downloaded Tinder. Even the fiver you spent on a tube or train can weigh on you during a particularly terrible experience. But have an awful date AND spend a ton on transport? That’s the bottom of the barrel. And that’s exactly what happened to Jade Savage.
Jade went on a date with a particularly vile human being, and she spent £90 to get there on the train. When she was quickly confronted with his unacceptable behaviour, she ended up leaving within five minutes. And despite said awful date offering to pay her back for the money she had spent on her train ticket, he never did – blocking her abruptly.
‘[My] date called me fat and got offended when I told him he was rude and acting like a prick,’ she said, ‘So [he] took me back to the train station five minutes later. He then offered to give me the £90 travel money back and blocked me when I said yeah.’
So what does any genius woman do in the face of such upsetting circumstances? She starts a GoFundMe page and makes all the money back… and then some. That’s right, Jade actually started crowdfunding to compensate for the monetary (and emotional) trauma of being called fat by this loser on a first date.
‘[I] just want to make my £90 travel money back so I can buy wine and sticks of lard,’ Jade joked on her fundraising page.
Shared more than 1,000 times, Jade has made more than her train fare – almost 10 times that in fact. With £810 raised so far, she has had 51 donors since setting up the page last week. And not only has she had monetary support, but words of wisdom from donors too.
‘At least you know he's a prick now before it was too late anyway,’ one donor commented when giving £10. In fact, she’s even attracted attention from dating site Badoo.com, which donated £200 to her fund before offering to set her up with a premium account.
