Daisy May Cooper’s Penis Prank On Her Publishers Is Exactly Why We Want To Buy Her Memoir

Her publishers and agent aren't happy about being the butt of her 'bent knob' joke, so much so she's deleted her Instagram.

This morning, Daisy May Cooper brought us the lockdown laughs we all needed when she posted a video playing a prank on the publishers of her new memoir called ‘Don’t Laugh. It Will Only Encourage Her.’ On a phone call she recorded and posted on Instagram, she is seen asking her agents to tell Penguin her book has to include a story about her ‘ex-boyfriends bent knob’ as a dealbreaker.

Posting the video online, it clearly riled up her agents and publishers the wrong way, with Daisy posting a second video showing a call with her agent where she promises not to post anything else on Instagram while giggling to the camera. Her Instagram account has since been taken down, with the videos reposted to an account called FreeDaisyMayCooper.

In an update sent to the account from Daisy herself, she said she had ‘gone back and forth’ with her agents and threatened to come of Instagram in response to their backlash – which she did. ‘We’ve now currently asked if I can dedicate the book to my ex-boyfriend with the bent knob and we’re just waiting to hear back from Penguin to see if that’s something they can compromise on,’ she laughed.

Of course, fans are loving the unfolding drama – particularly how Daisy is sticking to her guns no matter what her agents or publishers say. Because, the striking thing about all of this is how ridiculous an overreaction it is on their behalf. As Daisy said in her call to her agent ‘if you don’t laugh at a knob that bends to the left, I’m sorry but I don’t know what you’re going to laugh about.’

The thing is, Daisy’s comedy is exactly why her memoir will sell – the hilarious stories she has told on TikTok and beyond are enough to make anyone pick up a book about her life. Her vulgar jokes, crude stories - it's all what we'd expect from her memoir and part of her charm, so what's wrong with a bent knob story? When did publishers start gatekeeping bent knobs? When will women be allowed to be completely, 100% their funniest selves? Men can literally make jokes about the most disgusting parts of society, all through the guise of 'dark humour' and yet a well-established, successful comedian can't make a knob joke?

For her agents or publishers to be so unamused then by something that is classic Daisy humour is confusing - and telling.

More than that, Daisy’s authenticity and effortless ability to make us laugh with the simplest jokes and stories is her major selling point – so one would think making the most of the viral storm this prank has become would actually be a great marketing tactic for the team.

In fact, that’s what many assumed was going on at first given how strangely serious the reaction was from her agents – but one removed Instagram later it’s clear she’s genuinely fighting the good fight – that is, the right to be able to make knob jokes in your memoir.

Hopefully they’ll see the error of their ways in that and use Daisy’s talent for humour and pranks to their advantage instead – because there’s one thing we know, no matter how this turns out: we’re more excited for Daisy’s memoir now than ever before.
