Why Brooklyn Beckham Adding Peltz To His Name Is Actually Quite Old School

He may have just modernised an aristocratic tradition.

Brooklyn Beckham married his long-term girlfriend Nicola Peltz at her family’s Oceanfront Palm Beach Estate last weekend in a ceremony that rivalled the showbiz sheen of Paris Hilton and Carter Reum’s three-day extravaganza last winter.

The ceremony seemed to follow tradition as Nicola walked down the aisle in a white Valentino gown with her billionaire father Nelson Peltz. Yet, there was one progressive step taken by the couple as they tied the knot in Florida: The groom was changing his name.

Yup, Mr and Mrs Peltz Beckham. While sources are yet to confirm whether Brooklyn has officially changed his name in the eyes of the law, he’s already altered his Instagram username—as is the Gen-Z way.

For Brooklyn to take Peltz as his middle name is undeniably modern: It symbolises that Nicola’s former identity doesn’t need to vanish just because she’s somebody’s wife. Her family history is as much now part of who Brooklyn is as Beckham has become for her. It’s equal and that’s lovely.

‘Brooklyn is head over heels for Nicola,’ an insider told The Sun of the progressive choice. ‘It’s a huge sign of his commitment to her, and his love for her.’

Additionally, like the Kardashian-West and Knowles-Carter unions before them, the Peltz Beckham title signifies the launch of a new showbiz brand—a new era of the Beckham dynasty. This somehow makes the amalgamation a simultaneously modern and traditional choice, as it demonstrates the union of two seriously powerful families in a way that’s almost aristocratic.

Nicola’s father is a billionaire mogul and one of the highest-earning hedge fund managers in the world. He’s the 432nd richest person in the United States, owns a humungous portfolio of properties (including the Palm Beach estate), is friends with Rupert Murdoch and has been known to commute to work on a helicopter. Meanwhile, her model mother Claudia has a net worth of $5million in her own right.

And, obviously, we know about the Beckhams. Victoria and David have been Britain’s unofficial royals for as long as girl power and football fever instantaneously dominated the thoughts of the nation. They have a combined net worth of $450million, a close friendship with William and Kate (they declined an invite to the wedding) and numerous multi-million pounds mansions in Miami, London, and Dubai.

The Peltz Beckham moniker, like their union itself, combines modernity and tradition in a way that denotes equality while never letting us forget that two of the biggest families in showbiz have come together in one of the glitziest ceremonies ever.

Seriously, did you ever think you’d see Gordon Ramsay, Marc Anthony, Rashida Jones, Kiernan Shipka, M Night Shyamalan, Eva Longoria, Michael Bay, Natalia Bryant, Jonathan Cheban, Serena and Venus Williams all in one room? Our heads are still spinning.
