The name's Eilish. Billie Eilish. It's been announced that the 18-year-old singer best known for songs Bad Guy and Bury Your Friends has recorded the latest Bond theme for forthcoming film_No Time To Die_. There had been whispers of this rumour, but they were confirmed by the official Bond twitter account on Tuesday.“'
'It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way', says Billie. 'To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honour. James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock.' Billie is the youngest person ever to sing a Bond theme.
Little is known about the song so far, but we know that it is a collaboration between Billie and her singer/ songwriter brother Finneas. We're pretty excited to hear it, but we're also a bit surprised: last week, social media users seemed convinced that Beyonce herself would be doing the honours after she posted an Instagram shot of a Martini - Bond's favourite cocktail - at the Golden Globes. (With hindsight, that does seem a bit tenuous.)
Billie joins an impressive list of artists who have taken their place in film history by providing the theme tune to the spy franchise. In recent years, Sam Smith, Adele and Alicia Keys have got involved, while more historic tunes have been recorded by the likes of Dame Shirley Bassey, Carly Simon, Sheryl Crow, Garbage and Paul McCartney's band Wings. In fact, Sam Smith even won the Oscar for Best Song for his Bond theme, titled The Writing's On The Wall.
No Time To Die marks the return of Daniel Craig as James Bond. Ralph Fiennes, Lashana Lynch, Ben Whishaw, Rami Malek, Lea Seydoux and Ana de Armas make up the cast, while Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge is on the writing team. In short: we can't wait. Martinis, anyone?
