Mars announced the launch of their first vegan chocolate range today, with three different bars available including caramelised hazelnut, caramel and sea salt and smooth orange. What’s more, the bars come in a recyclable sleeve and compostable film, making them a win for sustainability too.
The vegan chocolate, launching on the 18th of November, makes Galaxy the first major milk chocolate brand to launch a vegan alternative. Currently, finding milk chocolate as a vegan can prove quite the struggle – at least, ones that actually taste good.
According to Galaxy’s statement, the vegan chocolate with have the ‘same smooth and creamy signature characteristics of Galaxy that we all know and love.’
‘Wherever you look you can’t avoid the vegan buzz in the UK,’ Kerry Cavanaugh, Marketing Director at Mars Wrigley UK said in a press release. ‘with the launch of GALAXY® Vegan we're thrilled to be offering vegans, flexitarians and lovers of sweet treats even more ways to choose pleasure with a brand they love.’
The range will be available in Tesco next Monday, and online soon after via Ocado and Amazon. For vegans, this news can’t come soon enough. ‘This is not a drill: VEGAN GALAXY BARS COMING TO THE UK ON MONDAY I could cry,’ tweeted Yasmin Johal in response to the news.
‘Milk chocolate is probably one of the most annoying things to find when you’re vegan because they’re typically always made with dairy,’ says Sophie Bailey-Smith, 24 from Milton Keynes, ‘I usually have to have dark chocolate which isn’t ideal, especially when you’re baking with chocolate…I definitely miss milk chocolate a lot so I can’t wait to try this.’
