IKEA and cult Stockholm-based fragrance house Byredo announced that they were planning a fragrance collaboration way back on 2017 and they've chosen 2020 as the year to finally release a candle collection together. It's been a long time coming but if there's one year the masses are deserving of a mood-booster like this launch it's 2020! The two brands have named this new collection Osynlig, the Swedish word for 'invisible'. It's a limited edition range so get in there quickly! With prices starting from only £5 the collection is going to fly, especially when you consider that your average Byredo candle tends to set you back around £59. For avid fans of Byredo those minimalist chic buys are worth every penny, but if you're just getting to knpw the fragrance house, their collaboration with IKEA could prove to be the perfect entry point.

The Details
IKEA's latest collaboration with Ben Gorham, the perfumer behind cult Stockholm-based fragrance house, Byredo, consists of 13 (yes, that's 13!) evocative fragrances. Each candle in the IKEA x Byredo collection has been designed to tap into memories, emotions and elevate our home experiences. Pretty handy when we're now spending more time than ever inside of them. This is one Scandi match made in heaven.
Known for their monochrome minamilist aesthetic, unique scents and memorable product names, Byredo has become the perfume bottle, and the candle to have on your shelf. Their latest collaboration with IKEA is sure to be no exception.
While little is known about what the home fragrance collection will entail just yet, IKEA and Byredo 'are exploring new ways of bringing scent into the home.'
'I know most people have associations of visiting their grandmother’s house – whether it’s her perfume or the flowers or her cooking – smell is a very relevant part of the home. It creates a sense of comfort and security. We seldom speak of it and I think this project enforces that as well: getting people to think about smell,' Gorham explained.
'We’re trying to develop a ton of smells enforcing the idea that everyone has a different relationship to it, and nothing is right or wrong,' Gorham continued.
The scents in the collection are divided into three different bases - fresh, floral and woody - proving that there's likely to be a favourite in there for everyone. The candles have been created using Byredo's renowned quality raw ingredients. As for the design each pot is glazed with a blend of two colours that best represent its ingredients. There's a triangle shaped marking on each pot too and that is a reference to one of the main ways that people understand fragrance, the trifecta of top notes, middle notes and base notes. There's little that isn't deliberate when it comes to this must-have collection. The ceramic pots can also be re-used once you've burned through your chosen candle. What more could you want?
When Will The Collection Be Available?
The Osynlig collection will be available to purchase exclusively at IKEA stores from November onwards. Oh, and like we mentioned, these are limited edition items so snap them up quickly!
