According to Selling Sunset’s Christine Quinn, mermaid waves are IN – and who are we to argue otherwise? In a refreshing move away from those messy top knots that have dominated Lockdown 1.0, we’re seeing more and more A-listers and influencers alike experiment with adventurous and done-up ‘dos. And while we’re not saying you have to throw away the scrunchies for good – every once in a while, when you’re in the mood, it can be fun to get made-up and experiment with your hair style.

Taking our cue from the Queen of glamour Christine Quinn – we’re especially drawn to these tousled, beachy waves. Why? Well first of all, the finished result doesn’t look too ‘done’ – instead, it looks relaxed and effortless. Second of all, it doesn’t require that much time and effort to pull off – you can either plait your hair or call upon a tong a la Christine. And finally, the waves cheat volume – making hair appear thicker and healthier. Oh, and it’s the perfect style for second-day hair, too.

So, what tool does Christine Quinn use?

While loose plaits can definitely achieve a wavy finish, we’d recommend opting for a tool like Christine to get that really defined, beachy movement. Posting to her 1.3 million followers on Instagram, Christine shared the look (which was a paid partnership with hair brand Bondi Boost) with the caption: ‘Mermaid Waves are IN. I created these bouncy, defined waves using my @BondiBoost Wave Wand, and I’m obsessed! It’s so quick and easy to use! I created this whole look in less than 10 minutes.’

Naturally, we googled Bondi Boost straight away and after seeing a picture of the tool it makes total sense that you can create those waves in under 10 minutes. Featuring three extra-large barrels, the Wave Wand can style large sections of hair at the same time. Top tip? ‘Experiment with the sections you clamp,' says Hair Stylist and Digital Influencer, Natalie Anne, ‘the smaller the section, the deeper the crimp…the wider the section, the looser the wave.’ To finish, mist a Sea Salt Spray all over for that added beachy texture.
