No need to sacrifice your principals for party dressing as Copenhagen’sStine Goya has launched sustainably-sourced evening wear.
‘[We] set ourselves the challenge to create a collection with sustainable materials that would match the materials we use and our followers have come to expect; to create something with our aesthetic vision in mind, whereby a customer with no knowledge of the collection's story could see and feel the garment and not feel any obvious difference,’ explains Stine, the creative director of her eponymous label.
Traditional fabric sourcing was scrapped and replaced by imaginative alternatives. Sequined silk dresses, for instance, were woven from the cocoons of silkworms. A floral mini-dress with matching tights and knee-high boots was produced using a single digital printing process that doesn’t require water. The sequins, which smattered the collection were all recyclable or made from recycled materials and the buttons, which embellished and a handful of pieces were made from upcycled mineral shell powder.
‘Initially it was a difficult process,’ adds Stine, ‘You would imagine that with sustainability being such an important topic globally, that these materials would be widely available, but for us it seems to remain more of a challenge to track down.’
With a level of eco-consciousness achieved the brand could focus and design. For this Danish label, eveningwear means more than floor-length frocks. Ruffles acted like the connecting thread in the collection, bringing together one tiered galaxy-printed dress and other dusty pink sparkling gown as well as a striped a-symmetric frock flush with rainbow palettes.
When asked about her favourite piece Stine was quick to say, ‘it's like choosing your favourite child, almost impossible!
