How To Sport The Athleisure Trend This Season

After we heard PJs were socially acceptable outside of the bedroom, we didn't think anything would ever top the sartorial saviour. That was until we were told sportswear has come back around for SS16…

Don’t worry, we’re not talking PE kit hand-me-downs. Oh no, sportswear is luxe now. But if the very word ‘sport’ sends you back to the days of skiving cross country then think again, as athleisure can be worn by anyone. Even Swedish bloggers devoted to the minimal aesthetic are swapping clean cut white co-ords for Vetements hoodies and silk track pants.

And no wonder, as sports luxe is a sartorial mash-up - think hoodies thrown over lace slip dresses or bombers and loafers. The fashion rulebook well and truly goes out the window with athleisure.

With that in mind, here are the staple pieces you need to get your hands on in order to sportify your wardrobe:

The Hoodie Re-Invented

Forget your school leavers hoodie. Layer a hooded zip jacket under a tailored blazer or wear over silky track pants for a chic twist on the trend. Pair with backless loafers and you're good to go.

Sneakers

Trainers have ruled the street style game ever since Phoebe Philo infamously broke unspoken fashion code and swapped heels for a comfier alternative. And we’ve never looked back since. Even Victoria Beckham, renowned for her ‘posh’ aesthetic, ditched heels for flats. And if she can, we can.

The Tracksuit

We’re still wearing out our pyjama suits but the tracksuit can be a great alternative when you’re still after a 'smasual' look. Don heels and a clutch to dress up the look.

Champions Of Style

The Champion hoodie is here to stay. The much coveted garment has sat at the front row, been photographed on the streets and Instagrammed aplenty so why not invest in the most talked about hoodie, well, ever.

The Cap

Caps have often been left at the football pitch. Yet it's our answer to a bad hair day. Championed by the likes of supermodel besties, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Hailey Baldwin- the cap has taken on a whole new meaning. Wear over middle parted hair and hoops if you really want to achieve the full sports aesthetic.

The Silk Bomber

The bomber jacket is back again. Pair with frayed jeans and Stan's for an effortless look. Opt for pink like Hailey Baldwin to tackle two trends in one outfit.

Nail Athleisure

Why stop at trackies and trainers when you can finish the look with sport-inspired nails? With Puma leading the athleisure trend give the latest sportified trend a go and opt for Jaguar-esque talons.
