Warning: if you’re someone who is prone to envy you’d be advised to steer clear of Lily Allen’s Instagram right now. Although that would be a shame because the singer is currently living her best style summer, and the best bit is, it involves a lot of pieces you maybe, probably, already own.
OK, so you might not have managed to jet off to the Amalfi Coast, as Allen did. And you likely don’t have the epic collection of It-bag luggage that she does (we would be tempted to trade a vacation for the glossy red Rimowa cases she is the lucky owner of. Swoon). But you can still get the Lily look with relative ease.
The cornerstone of her summer 2020 wardrobe? Leopard print – and lots of it. She’s currently doing for our favourite animal print what she once did for prom dresses and trainers. We’ve spied it splashed on her enviable swimwear collection, on a lightweight Les Girls Les Boys camisole, on handmade sandals and on breezy shirting (worn over a bikini; seriously, a great, oversized shirtis your ultimate do-it-all go-to now). Really committing to the theme, for dinner back in London at Scott’s, she matched a leopard maskto her dress. Safety first, but make it fierce.
If you love the Lily look, you need to make this your motto: why blend in when you can stand out? We’ve also fallen (hard) for the lace Gucci trousers in zingy lime green, for the geometric print Gioia sundress and the shirt, shorts and hat combo in a deliciously lurid wallpaper floral.
If that’s too much for you, then note another style lesson: jewellery, and lots of it. Allen has always had a fondness for piling on gold jewellery, something she’s not going to forego for a trip to the beach. She’s all about the necklaces right now, with a multi-medallion style by Foundrae the current favourite. Diamonds are not just for after dark anymore, and also get a whirl on the sand. Worried about neck sweat (yes, it’s a thing)? Pile up the hoop earrings instead. Given that we’re currently all melting, you’d also be advised to dig out your oversized shades (Allen’s are Chanel) and straw hats.
And, of course, don’t forget the golden rule. It’s all about the attitude. Bold pieces demand being worn with a bold confidence, so that you wear them and they don’t wear you. So go forth, smile, stand out – and style that mask to max.
