Whether it's the Duchess of Cambridgeor the girl next to us at work, everywhere we turn - Instagram, street style, the runway - we're spotting a pearl slide here, a velvet headband there.
Perhaps it's because at its core, adding a clip takes zero time and instantly modernises an outfit. Plus, the initial investment is so much less than forking out for a whole new season ensemble.
The eagle-eyed Grazia team noticed that this trend showed no sign of abating at the AW19 shows during London Fashion Week. While there may have been fewer scrunchies than previous seasons, there was a stark rise in headbands and bejewelled barrettes. At Shrimps, designer Hannah Weiland focused on headbands. Taking heed of her label's house codes, she transformed her famous faux-fur coats and beaded box bags into Alice Bands. For those shopping for hair slides, she offered round clips bedecked in crystals that matched the chandelier earrings her models wore.
Meanwhile, Ashley Williams upped the ante with her famous sardonic hair slides, layering them up to create a full-head of diamante slogans. Likewise, Simone Rocha amplified her beloved hair slides by dotting the models' heads in various pastel beaded clips. For Rocha, the hairband took on a tiara-like quality (Meghan and Kate, are you listening?). Her beaded headbands rose high off the head and twisted in an organic fashion while her pearl-encrusted Alice Bands looked like they had been nabbed on from the set of The Favourite.
Needless to say, London Fashion Week may be known for its esoteric style, but this gnawing trend proves not all that was shown was unwearable. In fact, we'll be heading to Net-A-Porter and Etsy right now to bide our time before Shrimps' furry headbands drop.
