Take a fistful of bangles and a black top and you’re set for the new year, according to Chrissy Teigen’s stylist, Monica Rose. New Year’s Eve’s hangover may still be lingering but we’re launching into 2019 with an arm party on the agenda.
On the first day of the new year, Rose, who also dresses Sofia Richie, said on Instagram, ‘I’m ready for stacked bracelets to make its way back!’ She shared archive shots from W Magazine of Christy Turlington dressed in a black body with a forearm full of bangles and a shot of the Brazilian Super Michelle Alves on a catwalk with bracelets layered over her black bodysuit.
It was the calling card of the late 80s, so naturally big cuffs are back in business for spring summer 19 where the trends come straight from the Working Girl costume department. Along with double-breasted suits, puff skirts and stone-washed denim, whopping great bangles tripped down the catwalks at Gucci, Chanel and Chloe.
Layered bracelets already have a couple of high and mighty fans. Rihanna likes to wear hers with suits, while Chiara Ferragni (of the ludicrously popular blog Blonde Salad) has been building up her bangles since as early as last summer.

A winning formula is to treat bracelets like we did necklaces two years ago - more is more. Find trinkets and vintage bands where you can and indulge in several handfuls of chunky cuffs. There doesn't have to be much rhyme or rhythm to the shapes you put together, but nevertheless mixing metals is ill-advised.
You can take your pick of chunkiness from Kenneth Jay Lane and Jennifer Fisher, but if you’re time-poor and trend-hungry Roxanne Assoulin is selling her bracelets pre-stacked. Meanwhile, Dinosaur Designs makes a statement with their marble resin hinged cuffs.
Coco Chanel famously once said something about taking the last accessory off that you put on to ensure your outfit is as chic as it can be. However, to master this willy trend, ignore this idiom entirely. Instead, add on one more bangle to really make this an arm party to remember.
