While You Weren’t Looking, Zara Dropped The Best Shoes On The High Street

Earlier this week, a pair of ankle boots quietly took the country by storm. Square toed, lace-up, heeled and available in blue or yellow, they seem like an unlikely candidate to sell out completely within mere moments of arriving on Zara's (virtual) shelves. And yet, they've done just that, with only a size 3 now on offer.

Suddenly, I realised that summer was flashing before my eyes. Not only had the new season haul starting making an appearance in shops everywhere, people are actually buying boots. Boots! And I've only just found a pair of sandals I can wear all day without developing blisters. I also realised, as I scrolled through shiny pictures of brand new shoes, that Zara had, without fanfare, just started selling some of the best sandals, mules, boots and pumps that I've seen on the high street for a long time.

90.-style mules in pink, green and blue are like a party for your feet, floral print heels tie at the ankle with a flourish, red knee-high boots are crying out for colder weather and mid-heel sandals with multicoloured straps could easily be mistaken for an eye-wateringly expensive pair of shoes when, in actual fact, they're less than £30.

There are quilted leather mules, mesh detail slingbacks, tassel loafers, metallic courts and even over-the-knee suede boots in pink, beige or green – not for the faint of heart. For the beginning of August, when it feels like absolutely everyone you know is on holiday and, well, you're not, it's an absolute treat. And if it feels slightly alarming to even be thinking of knee-high boots right now, just think how smug you'll be when Zara's latest sell-out success is already sitting in your wardrobe, ready to wear with your autumnal midis. Very smug indeed.
