Winter weather isn't fun. Darker mornings, colds and flus, freezing fingers; we know the drill. But there is one facet of winter that is a bonus - a winter wardrobe. We love pulling out the big coats and jackets, thick roll neck sweaters and chunky shoes from the back of our wardrobe, and it means our workwear gets an overhaul too. Office wardrobes no longer have be a dreary collection of frumpy school uniform-esque pieces, but can be totally chic. Vamp up your workwear by opting for on-trend patterned pieces or, if you're brave enough, why not rock the trouser suit, à la Brigitte Bardot.
The Check Print
Check patterns are everywhere at the moment, including in the work place. Stay office-chic with checked trousers, or add a touch of check with a scarf.
The Long Coat
The long coat is a timeless piece that you will hoard in your wardrobe for years to come, so it's worth investing in a good one. The beauty of a long coat is that you can wear as much, or as little, underneath it. Don't fancy layering up for your commute into work? No problem. Just chuck on a huge coat and you're good to go (and you'll stay warm). Whether it's faux fur, checked, leopard print, etc., it will be the best wardrobe purchase you make this winter.
Velvet
Everything you usually wear to work you can now get in velvet. It seriously ups the ante.
The Midi Skirt
The midi skirt is a great addition to a work wardrobe. Not only is it office-appropriate but it offers an alternative to the classic jumper with jeans ensemble so often worn around the office, and is just as low-maintenance. The beauty of midi skirts is that you can play around with footwear as almost anything goes - pumps, heels, trainers, boots...
Suit Up
Trouser suits are a fashion staple this year. You can dress them down with trainers and a t-shirt or dress fancy by pairing them with a pussy bow blouse and heeled shoes. To make a statement choose a pinstripe or checked suit. And to turn your look from daytime office wear to evening appropriate, just change your shoes.
