Another week, another crime drama denouement to post-mortem. BBC One's The Jetty, a tight four-parter starring Jenna Coleman, has all the store cupboard ingredients of a bingeable series: a dogged podcaster who seems to consistently out-fox the police, a brooding village setting that's permanently overcast and a recently bereaved detective constable with a wardrobe that's captured the zeitgeist on Mumsnet.

Coleman plays DC Ember Manning, a police officer whose late husband -spoiler alert! - might give her a motive for wanting certain information about a missing teenager, Amy Knightley, to remain hidden. As befitting her role as a cop who has to duck under police tape near the infamous jetty and dig up the past as part of her 9-5, Manning's wardrobe is a rather sombre but nonetheless wearable rotation of earthy knits, waterproof jackets and track-soled stomper boots.

Lest we forget the power of The Traitors, TV is how we were all subliminally influenced to buy kilts, fingerless gloves and natty jumpers earlier this year. As of now, however, Ember's wardrobe is more likely to convince you to embrace the autumnal version of tomato-girl summer, especially since the hotter months haven't exactly been delivering on heat, with a colour palette of misty blues and forest greens that will make you slightly less bitter about the shortening days.

The clouds rarely part in The Jetty, both plot-wise and weather-wise, hence the need for a good waterproof. DC Manning's hooded style is a classic from Barbour.

Most crime drama protagonists have a coat they huff on and off, on and off. Ember's no different, with a choice wouldn't have looked out of place on an episode of The Traitors. Khaki green with weather-appropriate storm flaps, it's a proper winter coat that will see you through rain, snow and ice. John Lewis's Hand-Finished Wool-Blend Trench Coat is the actual coat in The Jetty, although it's sadly now sold out, but for something more autumn-appropriate, try Sézane, whose trending trench coat will still be the gift that keeps on giving later this year.

It's appropriate that our detective chooses to wear a wizened leather jacket in this particular scene because, without any further spoilers, things get rather heated in the local watering hole. A single-breasted jacket might be a favourite of coppers but your average fashion girlie is also a fan.

Every detective constable worth their salt has a pair of reliable boots to go from crime scene to greasy spoon without the need for a change in footwear.
