Spotted on celebs, bloggers and up and down the high street, the humble tea dress is having a moment once again. Why do we love a tea dress? Let us count the ways...

Firstly, we’re calling it, the tea dress is the most flattering shape out there. The nipped in waist, skater skirt and sleeves is supremely forgiving regardless of body shape. Plus, with longer and shorter lengths available you’ll be sure to find one to your liking.

Secondly, they offer excellent cost-per-wear value. Unlike some other summer dress options (case in point: the peasant dress), the tea dress can easily slot into your wardrobe, regardless of the season. Wear in summer with a flatform sandal or backless mules, pair with ankle boots and a biker for autumn, and come winter just add tights and a chunky knit.

Thirdly, they work for any occasions. For festivals we love Topshop’s bright red option while Reformation’s floaty number would be ideal for a relaxed wedding.

Harley Viera-Newton, known for her year-round uniform of printed dresses, is naturally a big fan of this style. So much so that she’s dedicated much of her debut collection, HNV to the item.

Newton’s highly covetable tea dresses come in an array of vintage-inspired patterns including a ditzy green floral, a cherry print and a pastel pink gingham. Newton’s celeb pals, Alexa Chung, Leigh Lezark and Kate Foley, have all snapped up theirs.

The shops are awash with tea dresses, check out our favourites in the gallery below.
