If you've ended up here, chances are you're a tall girl (just like me) and you're looking for a cure to get rid of ankle-grazers forever. And if there's one thing I've learned, it's how to find trousers that actually fit.
Being 5'10, I actually don't feel tall (surprisingly) but two things always give me a reality check. A, spending a night out with friends leads to serious back problems from all the bending down to hear them talk. B, shopping for trousers. There's nothing worse than falling in love with a pair of bottoms and realising you've somehow ended up with capris instead. Or placing an order on some cool cargo pants online, only for them to arrive and, on you, look like something made for a 10 year-old.
I think jeans are the worse to pull off because if they don't fit, they don't fit. There is absolutely no way around that fact. Flares don't look like flares anymore and dad jeans? Just for-get-it. At one point, I thought I was just going to have to deal with my long-legged fate and accept I was never going to have trousers that sat nicely on my shoes. But over the years my love for baggy trousers that grazed the floor allowed me to pick up a few tricks on how to shop for my height - which have been proven to have a 99.9% success rate. Welcome to your tall-girl trouser rule book.
The Inseam Matters
If there's one thing you take away, remember to always check the inseam length. If you are around 5'10 like me, opt for 34'' or sometimes 36'' for that floor-skimming look. If you're shopping online, this can often be found in the item description. Some shops offer a waist and leg length option, which I love!
Check The Model's Height
Also sticking to that description, believe it or not the model's height and the size they're wearing is often listed in the description. I often use the model's height as a rough guideline, and if they're tall, it's a plus.
Really Look At Those Trousers
Is the trouser high waisted or low waisted? With low-waisted trousers you can often get away with a shorter leg because they sit lower. If you're also shopping something with a stretchy material there is usually a bit of give.
Try Men's
Sometimes the men's section has the better selection if you're after something with a looser fit and added length! I've got some of my best cargo bottoms from the men's section.
