If you haven't spent the bank holiday weekend just gone watching Hostage on Netflix, then honestly - what have you been doing? I'm going to put it down to two things, you must have A) more of a social life than I do, or B) haven't heard of the limited series (until now, that is). Either way, the brand new five-episode thriller starring Suranne Jones is providing the kind of entertainment that hooks you from the off and doesn't let you go until you've (slightly ferally) watched in one sitting. It's got the drama of a political crisis (nothing like a side of kidnapping and death threats as you sip your Saturday evening glass of wine), the emotional drama of a Prime Minister whose husband has just been kidnapped, and an entire Pinterest board worth of outfits that will make you want to rethink your workwear wardrobe immediately.
The series is just about as intense as you'd expect from the name, Hostage follows the story of Abigail Dalton (played by Jones), whose power as PM is tested in the most personal way when her husband is abducted. At the same time, French president Vivienne Toussaint (played by Julie Delpy), who's on a trip to the UK, is blackmailed. What follows is a journey through loyalty, betrayal and backroom politics, of course, all delivered with Jones' signature unwavering gravitas - and it's one that leaves us viewers undecided on whether to clutch a cushion or admire the impeccable tailoring (or do both at the same time).

Jones' outfits in Hostage are something of Meghan-Markle-meets-Kamala-Harris, as she gives a masterclass in modern power dressing, opting for tailored separates, structured blazers and well-cut tapered trousers. Of course, a power suit, stands for so much more than just an excellent stylist - it's become a sort of sartorial statement for authority, intelligence confidence, all of which essentially describe Jones' character in Hostage.
So, while most of us might not be negotiating a drug supply crisis or a kidnapping, Jones' wardrobe in the latest Netflix series is one aspect of the thriller we can take into our everyday lives. Shop her outfits and high street alternatives below.

The navy crossover blazer and trousers
In episode one, Jones is spotted wearing a navy crossover blazer layered with a white V-neck cami top. Her exact blazer is designed by British label The Fold London, but is no longer available - luckily, there are plenty of similarly coloured alternatives on the high street at the moment.

Finery London is also a brand known for its impeccable tailoring, and its Collared Jacket showcases that. With a neat collared neckline and notch lapels, the star of the blazer has to be the gold buttons and crossover front.

Finery London also has the most perfect pair of navy wide-leg trousers. Cut from soft fabric that has a hint of stretch to it, this pair of trousers are designed to sit high on the waist and has a discreet hook and bar fastening for a chic finish.

For a simple cami top you can layer underneath a linen shirt or sheer jumper, head to M&S, whose style is chic and pared-back. It also has adjustable straps, which is a game-changer if you find they always fall down.
The beige striped jumper and jeans
In another scene, Jones is seen wearing an outfit formula we can all emulate - a beige striped jumper and black jeans. Her original style is from Jigsaw (now sold out), but we've found a couple of really similar alternatives from Uniqlo and Mango.

www.uniqlo.com
Part of Uniqlo's 3D knit collection (which makes for a comfortable and seamless fit), this striped jumper is made from 100% cotton and features a brown and navy striped pattern. Style with a pair of jeans or a satin midi skirt and trench coat.

Mango's take on a classic Breton stripe jumper comes in a light beige and black colourway, and features a high collar and long sleeves. Tuck into a pair of wide-leg trousers and finish the look with ballet flats for an easy everyday look.

If you're on the hunt for the perfect pair of black jeans, there's no better place to look than Levi's. It's tricky to see the exact pair of jeans spotted on Jones, but this pair of black Levi's looks super similar and features a flattering straight-leg cut.

Frame's jeans are inspired by the 70s and feature a high-rise waist and skinny shape. Made from premium dark denim, its Le High Skinny jeans are super stretchy and are a good pair for everyday wear.
The navy wrap dress
Jones' wardrobe in Hostage, as you can probably already tell, leans towards those block colours, in particular, navy. Here she's seen wearing yet another navy number, this time in the form of a Veronica Beard wrap dress.

As for jewellery, Jones opts for this gorgeous gold-plated necklace, which is finished with twisted and textured detailing. Wear on its own for a statement look, or pair with a gold stack, either way it'll have you feeling like you're the boss.
The floral shirt
No workwear wardrobe is complete without a blouse that just goes with everything. Whether you opt for a plain navy iteration, or a floral style like the one spotted on Jones (her exact style is from Victoria Beckham and is now sold out), you can tuck a blouse into a pair of high-waisted trousers, or leave it untucked over a midi skirt.

This Ted Baker shirt is a similar style to the one Jones wears in Hostage because of its one-sided floral design. The blouse itself is slightly sheer, so wear with a satin cami underneath and tuck into a pair of straight-leg or Mom jeans.

If you're after a less in-your-face navy blouse, we've tracked down this & Other Stories design, which features a stand-up collar, light floral detailing and gathered cuffed sleeves.
The bejewelled midi dress and statement earrings
Every powerful Prime Minister knows the importance of a statement piece - and Jones in this bejewelled midi dress is no exception. It has all the hallmarks of a Jenny Packham design, and Jones pulls it off effortlessly, styled with similar coloured earrings.

Jones' bejewelled midi dress is of a similar design to this Jenny Packham style. Yes, it's somewhat of an investment piece, but it's one that'll take you from black tie events to weddings with ease. Plus, it needs minimal styling thanks to its artful shoulders.
