True story: I’ve been wearing a hot pink kaftan (make that a hot pink kaftan covered in tassels, embroidery and beads) all summer - and have barely stepped foot out of my own home. I’ve also been wearing gladiator sandals to the park, and beaded surfer-style necklaces on a daily basis. My point? If you haven’t got a hot holiday on the horizon, there’s nothing stopping you from wearing your vacation wardrobe at home, especially if everyone you know seems to be photographing themselves on sunloungers.
Not only will wearing something that says ‘holiday’ lift the spirits, it’ll also stop your wardrobe from being so binary, with one section for ‘real life’ and one section for ‘holiday’. Take a mimosa-coloured slip dress. You can wear it with flatform flip-flops on holiday, and with a chunky cashmere jumper and sneakers combo at home. A short-sleeved holiday shirt works brilliantly as a bikini cover-up on the beach, but will just as easily work over a crisp white tee when you’re back.
And then there’s the accessories. Won’t a pair of tangerine-shaped earrings - usually something you’d save for the Mediterranean - make you feel a little lighter when it’s lashing rain outside? You can also let ankle-tie espadrille infuse a blazer and straight-leg jeans with some holiday slouch, while a delicate snake chain anklet will add a dash of sex appeal to mid-calf length skirts and dresses. And you won't need to worry about quarantine.
Holidays – who needs them?
