Remember how a cashmere bra and cardigan was ‘the look’ of 2019? It was August in Manhattan, and Katie Holmes was snapped wearing the knitted co-ord (by New York label Khaite) to hail a taxi. The cardigan only had one button fastened and the bra was just visible. It was a fashion moment far away from the high-octane glamour of red carpets and runways, but a fashion moment nonetheless.
The bra was particularly sensational - selling out within the hour - and making Katie Holmes the spokesperson for sexy knitwear in the process. (Psst: the Scarlet cardigan and Eda bra are both available on Net-a-Porter now).
Of course, it’s also a look for 2020, with loungewear sales spiking since we all started working from home. The ‘bradigan’ has gained such traction in our ‘waist-up’ wardrobes that even Primark has a version launching in-store next week. Two, in fact – one rust-coloured short-sleeved cardigan (£13) with matching crop top (£8), and one cream-coloured cable-knit (£12) with matching ribbed vest (£8). OK, the tops aren’t exactly bras, but raise your hand if you’re actually brave enough to wear a knitted bra (that’s visible) out of the house? Or on Zoom? Exactly.

While you wait, the high street has some brilliant co-ord options in the kind of biscuit shades you're looking for. Mango’s soft grey cardigan and square-necked ribbed top will look lovely with white denim, while Massimo Dutti’s oatmeal-coloured cape sweater and longline cardi-coat are great for the colder months.
Keep the styling minimalist à la Katie - a pendant necklace, a no-fuss ponytail and a sleek leather shoulder bag should do it - and if your sleeve slips off your shoulder while you're flagging down your Uber? So be it.
