Step away from the sales rail and meet the most electric shade of 2019 (so far). ’Really into green these days’, Kendall Jenner captioned an image on Instagram after wearing the same fluoro shade several days in a row. During these long dark days of winter, who can blame her? This nuclear neon colour is sure to brighten any room (even a pitch-black one).
Chemically engineered shades were all over the SS19 catwalks - ‘Off-White’, Prada, Ashish, Ashley Williams etc - and have already been seen on a host of celebrities (see: Blake Lively and Kim Kardashian). Naturally, this mood-altering shade is already trickling down to the high street.
For the uninitiated, this wicked bright green can be intimidating, but Grazia’s Shopping Editor Sophie Henderson assures that anyone can ease it into their wardrobe. ‘The way to take neon out of the rave and into the realms of wearability is by pairing it with muted shades and structured shades,’ she explains. After all, Kendall herself wore her I.Am.Gia Stabilo green corset top with black, albeit spray-on tight, high-shine latex trousers.
Another way to take the acid out of neon is to, ‘pair your one bold piece with rich navy, tobacco brown or deep burgundy. Opt for oversized shapes in tailored pieces and you’ll instantly elevate any shade of fluoro,’ reckons Sophie. Stylist Maria Bernard has already started experimenting with this technique. Capturing a picture of her Shrimps Antonia bag in a phosphorescence shade of green with a pair of taupe By Far boots, she wrote: '2019 quotes: "Green lime is the new black"'
