September’s a pretty big month in fashion land. It’s the start of a brand new season and the biannual fashion shows are already underway. What that means for your wardrobe is that there has never been a better time to ape thestreet stylers and work out what they’re investing in. Because, trust us, the amount of work a fashion editor puts into planning their fashion month wardrobe proves that their wish list items won’t be a flash-in-the-plan, but rather fabulous this season and beyond.
The square-toed shoe

Bottega Veneta managed to create the shows that every fashion editor wants to wear. While square toe sandals were huge news for summer, they're not going anywhere soon. They work with longline shorts now and sheer black tights come winter.
The leather Bermuda short
The weather for micro-shorts may sadly be behind us, but knee-length bermudas are an entirely sensible proposition (yes, really). Wears yours with fashion editors’ favourite combo – a white tee and oversized blazer.
The big long dress
Forget the LBD, it’s all about the BLD this September. Prints or plain: it’s up to you, but sleeves and a high neck are mandatory.
The trouser suit

The trouser suit is a classic go-to in September (see Phoebe Waller-Bridge looking whip-smart in her frog-green Victoria Beckham number). If you want to keep your suit looking soft, opt for a pastel shade
The satin shirt
Think of the satin shirt as more ’70s and less Strictly this season. Dial down the disco by choosing a solid colour rather than a retro pattern
The chain jewellery
Chunky gold hardware isn’t about to do a disappearing act anytime soon, so stock up on chain necklaces and interlocking link earrings. Gigi Hadid wears her choker piled high with other trinkets, so don’t hold back.
The flat boot

Summer’s over, which means it’s officially boot season. There are plenty of cowboys and knee-highs kicking about, but there’s something irresistible about a flat, thick-soled boot that can be worn with floral frocks and jeans alike.
The plain tank

You might not have worn a tank top since the ’90s, but the slimline, sleeveless top is back, according to street stylers. Wear yours with jeans, à la Pixie Geldof, or style under a loose-fitting trouser suit.
The blazer

The blazer got a strong showing at last month’s Copenhagen Fashion Week – a sure sign that it will be everywhere at September’s shows. Choose a size up so you can roll the sleeves and get that lived-in look
The hairband
Ever since Prada put padded styles on the catwalk, the hairband has been a bona fide It accessory. Embrace your inner Sloane Ranger, we say.
