Marks & Spencer's fashion department has truly outdone itself this summer, with viral dresses to include the £45 leopard dress (which is also a brilliant Ganni dupe) and the white cami shift dress that could be designer. As the cooler months approach, the high street hero has - once again - emerged as the go-to brand for chic basics, and I couldn't help but devote my entire lunch break to perusing the new in section. Suffice to say, I was not disappointed.

While I'm always partial to a general browse, this time, I was there with a specific goal of hunting down the dress that had taken over my Instagram feed in the last few weeks. So, as soon as I laid eyes on the universally flattering Jersey Textured Midaxi Relaxed Skater Dress, £29.50, I immediately made a bee-line.

The popular dress, with its textured fabric and figure-hugging design, is both elegant and comfortable, which I often find is a rare combination. At the hem, the dress is flared slightly, and the subtle diagonal seams add a touch of modernity that's perfect for day-to-night and summer-to-autumn transitions. Of course, the versatility is what makes this dress so great. On a warmer evening, pair with a neutral block heel and a clutch bag (that's currently enjoying a renaissance), or, for those chillier days, add some black boots and a roll neck layered over the top.

Delighted customers flooded the M&S website, with comments such as 'it's a very comfortable dress and everyone complemented on the colour and material' and 'I absolutely love the style and shape of this dress.'

Transitional dressing doesn't always mean you have to ditch your dresses for something knitted or frumpy. This textured jersey dress is made with added stretch, making it super comfortable, and a really flattering skater shape. Plus, it comes in three different colours; black, ecru and bright green.

Leopard print is a continuing trend into autumn, and this dress is one to pair with chunky boots and a knit layered over. It's also cut in a very comfortable fit, and features a timeless round neckline and short sleeves.

This striped midi dress is very Parisian-chic, and it's French-girl autumn so we're absolutely following in their lead. It features a sleek column shape and added stretch, plus short sleeves and contrasting trim.

If you like something a little more out there and not so understated, this dress has a striking all-over print in a very autumnal brown shade. Style this dress with a pair of knee-high brown boots and a statement clutch bag.

An LBD is just one of those things you need for any season. A staple in a capsule wardrobe, and for good reason - because it goes with almost everything. This one has a more modern look with a one-shoulder design and bodycon fit.

Gingham is another great transitional print, and this M&S one features a (very) bold all-over checked pattern. It also has a tie belt that cinches in the waist and 3/4 length sleeves to keep you warm when the temperatures drop.
