It’s official: the moment to dig out all the winter coats you have has come. We know this to be true not because of some meteorological sign (i.e. it’s flipping freezing), but because of Katie Holmes. Ever since that bradigan moment, Holmes has become our barometer for when to wear what. And over the past few weeks, she's been wearing the most dazzling array of winter coats.
For a stroll yesterday, Holmes wore a thick camel-coloured coat with a bright yellow hoodie and grey sweatpants. On 30 December, it was a single-breasted black coat, the kind of wardrobe classic that everyone should have one great version of come winter.
Ulla Johnson's Frances coat, a large-lapelled burgundy number, was her choice on 21 December, while a few days earlier she wore a favourite camel coat for a walk around Manhattan.
These aren't the first examples of her strong winter coat game. In 2019, we fell in love (deeply in love) with the way she styled a single-breasted coat from Wardrobe NYC. She wore it with a taupe-coloured polo neck, straight-leg jeans and black lace-up ankle boots; totally within range for mere mortals like us and, it’s got to be said, so incredibly chic.
Yesterday’s coat is something of an outerwear signature for Holmes, who usually chooses a mid-calf style that works brilliantly on her tall frame, especially when paired with her messy top knot.
