For today's outing at Royal Ascot, Kate Middleton seemed to pay homage to an iconic racing outfit of Princess Diana's. Arriving in black and white polka dots - a colour combination that also brought to mind Audrey Hepburn's Eliza Dolittle - Middleton's outfit was remarkably similar to that of Diana's, who, for the same event in 1988, wore a shoulder-padded white dress with long sleeves and little black spots.
Middleton's dress - high-necked, belted and hitting just below the mid-calf - was from one of her favourite occasionwear labels, Alessandra Rich, and seems to cement the polka dot has her preferred print. She wore a very similar dress, this time black with white spots, earlier this year to attend Prince Philip's Service of Thanksgiving. Styled with a straw hat embellished with white blossoms - which, incidentally, slants the same way as Princess Diana's - the outfit was one of the best in show. (She also rounded off the look with very similar earrings, diamonds and teardrop pearls, to Diana.)
The exact dress seems to be sold out, but the label has several polka-dotted styles that are currently in the sale.
