I am assuming the school run can be a stressful time for parents. Having to corral young children early in the morning, presumably on little sleep, while also pretending to be a fully functioning adult who wears normal clothes in order to drop said children at school is really no mean feat. Add a hoard of photographers into that mix and, well, it's a horrifying thought. So, I'm in no doubt that Kate Middleton's 'I'm casually dropping off my daughter for her first day at school' outfit was not, in fact, thrown on. It was, I'm assuming, carefully selected – look at that blow dry! This means that the jazzy hoop earrings she wore were pre-meditated.
A pair of jazzy hoops has become my favourite thing, sartorially-speaking. On days when time is not on my side and I can only struggle into jeans and a jumper before tying up my hair, only to still be running late, I've found they can make a basic, boring outfit into something that looks considered. As the Duchess of Cambridge today proved, they also add the finishing touch to a much smarter ensemble.
Kate's own earrings are, according to some over-zealous fan sites, from Asprey and cost around £5,000 (although the brand has now changed this to Price on Request, no doubt due to the volume of interest it's receiving). While they're much more expensive than the average pair of jazzy hoops, fear not – there are plenty of affordable options that will compliment your Michael Kors dress, too.
Personal favourites (of mine, not necessarily K-Mid's) include Missoma (a brand favoured by another Duchess), Monica Vinader and Tada & Toy, which donates a portion of its profits to a wildlife charity.
Not since JLo have I been so excited about hoop earrings. So excited, in fact, that I've compiled a list of some of the best that you can shop right now. I think they call this the Lord's work.
