It’s Your Second Chance To Get These Spring Sell Outs

You know that magical feeling when a brand re-stocks that cult item which sold out in ten seconds flat?

Spring sell outs

It used to be that for an item of clothing to acquire cuIt status, it either had to be prohibitively expensive, or impossible to find. Preferably both. But recently the high street has been excelling at producing its own It pieces. Accessibility and ubiquity (well, until they sell out, that is) doing nothing to dim their desirability.

Take Dune London’s Loupe slides. You’ll recognise them from all over your Insta feed – the best-selling style for the brand last summer, they sold out a whopping five times. Or how about Topshop’s Editor jeans? The £49 pair sold out as soon as the campaign they starred in launched. ‘If you see your size, grab them, because they’re flying out of store,’ advises one of the brand’s personal shoppers. But the good news is, second chances do exist. Both the Loupes and the Editors are back in new colours for S/S ’19. Meanwhile, Whistle’s Jungle Cat mididress sold out twice in green - now it returns in red for the summer. So what makes an It piece?

Celebrity and influencer endorsement no doubt propel the popularity. So, we predict a sell-out for the slouchy, caramel H&M Studio trouser suit Alexa Chungwore to the Erdem show during London Fashion Week. Similarly, Kurt Geiger’s Rainbow Quench water bottle holder – £15 of the proceeds go to WaterAid – already had a waiting list of over 100 ahead of launch, a er Georgia May Jagger Instagrammed hers. The #MangoGirls, meanwhile, will no doubt make sell-outs of the new-season silver items.

Sometimes, however, it’s just down to something being quite simply a great piece: a hard worker, an effortless update, the exact kind of refresh you’ve been looking for. Take John Lewis & Partner’s Kin jumpsuit: it’s getting a lot of buzz before launch because it’s the kind of easy, flattering piece you can return to again and again and again. Here, then, are the second chance sell-outs and the next It hits to get familiar with now. On your marks..
