Iconic Denim Brand Lee Collaborates With H&M On A Sustainable Denim Collection

Most of us are in and out of jeans at least five times a week, but how often do we stop and think about the damage that denim has on the environment? If we dug a little deeper, we'd quickly learn how many harmful processes are involved turning cotton into our favourite trousers, and would think twice about buying an artificially-distressed pair when you realise how much the planet will pay for those rips and fades.

This is why Lee x H&M, the first collaboration between the iconic denim outfitter and the high street behemoth, puts sustainability front and centre for everyone to see, starting with transparency. Every product across the women's, men's and kids' ranges comes with Life Cycle Assessment data so customers can see exactly how many kilograms of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent), megaJoules of energy, and litres of water have been saved in the making process.

Every detail that has gone into these jeans, which range from on-point balloon legs to your classic ultra skinny, has been carefully considered, from the fibres to the finishing touches. The collection's wide-leg style, for example, is made from 100% recycled cotton, which breaks down into 80% post-industrial waste and 20% post-consumer waste. The jacket is not made from cotton at all, but a man-made renewable cellulosic fibre-blend of 50% TENCEL™ Lyocell, 50% LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose. They say the devil's in the details so all the metal trims are both non-plated and non-toxic, the thread is recycled polyester and the back patch is made from FSC-certified cork and jacron paper.
