In an unusual turn of events, fashion is very down to earth right now. Literally earth in all its myriad of sand, chalk, bark and honey tones. After taking in a month of fashion week street style it’s abundantly clear shades of brown are trending, which is convenient because H&M are doing a fine line in minimalist neutral pieces this week.
Between #OldCelinetrending and the waning newness of Gucci maximalism, there’s something refreshing about a subtle colour palette and simple, understated shapes. A khaki military jacket and a burnt orange slip skirt stand out as H&M’s riff on this conceit. We’re keen on the belted beige button-front skirt also that cream cardigan, which we’d layer over silk dresses and tuck into high-waisted jeans. A snakeskin jacket might sound a bit too Nicholas Cage but when tailored into a trench coat it takes on a bourgeoisie appeal, which is a trend that will stretch into autumn courtesy of the new-old Celine aesthetic being propagated by Hedi Slimane.
